TIRANA, May 28 – A shootout in downtown Tirana Wednesday night left three people dead and wounded several others.
The incident also caused panic among the Zog I Ave. residents who witnesses the shootout in the wide avenue dividing the Maternity Hospital and the University of Tirana Natural Sciences Faculty building.
Police identified the dead as Besnik Sulku, 34, Gerti Goxha, 33, and Mentor Lufi, 39. Police also arrested several people in connection with the crime shortly after the clash.
Police said the victims and those arrested were all were known to authorities has having ties to international drugs trafficking.
Acts of targeted violence by organized crime groups are not unusual in the Albanian capital.
