Tirana in closer ties with Washington

TIRANA, March 23 – Upon returning from Washington Foreign Minister Ilir Meta said his visited served, “ƴo reconfirm once again the extremely close relations between Albania and the USA and at the same time to exchange views and ideas on various issues, particularly on those related to the state of play in our region and its integration prospect, as well as on other important international issues, as that of Afghanistan, where Albania continues to be engaged with an increased contribution, now as a NATO member state, the most important security Alliance we are in, thanks also to US support.”
“I believe that this working visit will be followed by many joint activities, to be held in the United States, even in Albania, which will further highlight the priorities of the comprehensive political cooperation, economic and trade between our two countries,” said Meta.
The United States has been a very close supporter to post-communist Albania and a main support for the tiny Balkan country in its achieving NATO membership last year.
