TIRANA, April 19 – More than 20 police dogs have been put up for sale for €57 to €142 each after failing tests, the finance ministry says. In an announcement published on the Public Procurement Agency, the ministry invites bids for 23 dogs aged between 1 to 8 years old in two auctions scheduled for May 10 and 11. The announcement does not provide any details about the dogs’ breed and characteristics, but most of them are believed to be German shepherds.

Albania has had a dogs’ training school outside Tirana since the early 1950s under communism. Dogs are still professionally trained to help fight drugs, explosive and even money smuggling.

The Institute for the Training of Police Dogs is responsible for the breeding and training of police dogs.

Dogs failing tests are regularly put up for sale.
