For the first time in its history, the Albanian National Theatre is to present a play based on Greek antiquity but directed by Vangelis Theodoropoulos. He has arrived in Tirana and is already working hard for the premiere on 17 July. The events of the tragedy “The Trojans” take place in the ancient city of Butrint. Not only as a play, but also as a script, this is the first time “The Trojans” have come to Albania. The tragedy was rendered into the Albanian by translator and writer Romeo ȯllaku, who has been living in Greece for many years now.
Theodoropoulos has selected some members of the important staff who will work to put this play on stage, produce the costumes and compose the music. It has been discovered that in this performance Hekuba, the Trojan Queen will be played by Margarita Xhepa. “I have heard so much about her, about the history of this actress and I believe this role would be very fitting for her, even more so when the name of Margarita Xhepa is not unknown to the art-loving public in Greece, because she has also performed on the stage in Greece,” the producer said to the media recently.
However, other well known names of the Albanian Theatre will also be performing in this play such as Ema Andrea, Rajmonda Bulk, Marjeta Larja, Arben Derhemi, Naritan Licaj etc. Theodoropoulos has decided that the music should also be composed by an Albanian composer. Stage props and costumes will be realized by Angelos Mendris, stage designer of the Olympic Games of Athens. Famous in Greece not only as the director of the “Neos Cosmos” Theatre Company, Theodoropoulos is also well known as the Producer of the Comedies of Sophocles.
