GJIROKASTRA, Sept. 5 – Police said that they had fired Tuesday Engjellush Qendro, an agent in the Lazarat commune, for not cooperating with police to identify the drugs planted in his area. A considerable number of cannabis sativa, more than 5,000 plants have been cut in the last two weeks from police in Lazarat. Qendro had declared to the media that Lazarat residents had not planted any drugs.
In the last stage of the operation in the village police cut Tuesday 278 cannabis plants. During the operation on Tuesday in Lazarat there were heard shots when police entered the village early morning. As a result of a stray bullet a 49-year old woman Manushaqe Sino in a nearby quarter of the Gjirokastra town was shot and slightly wounded in her right knee. Another 45 kilograms were found at a house together with some 800 bullets and three Kalashnikovs. Pace Cela living in the house was arrested while her husband was declared at large.
Cannabis plants cut in other areas
Police have reported that a considerable number of cannabis plants have been found and cut in many areas around the country. On Wednesday police said they cut some 400 plants in Bence, Tepelena, in the south and also arrested some persons.
On Saturday they cut 350 cannabis plants in two villages in Vlora, Mesaplik and Terbac, in southwest but did not arrest anyone after they were planted in land that belonged to no one making difficult for police to identify the owners. During the last two months police operations have eliminated some 1,470 kilograms of pressed cannabis and cut some 4,140 plants.
On Sunday police cut some 1,070 cannabis plants in Malesi e Madhe and the communes of Ducaj, Shkrel. The no man’s land did not make police arrest anyone in the area.
