TIRANA, Sept. 27 – A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4 Richter scale caused minor material damage to a northeastern area in Albania on Wednesday, the Seismological Institute said. The quake occurred at 1:51 a.m. (2351GMT Tuesday) 18 kilometers (11 miles) west of Bajram Curri town in Tropoja district, some 225 kilometers (140 miles) northeast of the capital, Tirana, according to the institute. The quake damaged some houses and a building in the area and it was felt in surrounding areas mainly to the west, said the institute. An earthquake of magnitudes between 2.5 and 3 is the smallest generally felt by people. A quake of magnitude 4 to 5 can cause moderate damage in populated areas.
