Albanian Copyright Office launched on International Day of Intellectual Property

TIRANA, April.30 – The International Day of Intellectual Property resulted in governmental discussions on copyright and its protection mechanisms that require a common effort from many institutions such as the Tax Authorities, the Ministry of Finance, the Justice Ministry, the judicial system, etc.
During discussions, the newly launched Albanian Copyright Office was introduced. The event was opened by the Minister of Culture, Ylli Pango, who praised the copyright office as a central institution that will play an active part in the protection of copyright and the implementation of respective laws.
The Head of this new office, Nikoleta Gjordeni, gave a brief presentation of the activities planned. Other participants included Xhevdet Ferri, head of the National Cinematographic Center and Neshat Tozaj, executive director of the agency for collective administration of the music copyrights “Albautor”, Piro Milkani, executive director of the Forum for the protection of Authors of the Film & Video, etc. The office will represent the economic interests of actors who have specific obligations with their copyrights.
