The Francophony month commenced on 17 March 2007 and is going to continue until 20 April. The President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy and the General Secretary of Francophony, Abdou Diouf (former President of Senegal) participated at the official launch of the month at the Cit顩nternationale universitaire, Paris, on 20 March 2007.
Abdou Diouf declared the events opened and congratulated the organisers. “May the Francophony be at the heart of all people who are sharing our language, our values, our aspiration for a better future, for us and for the entire human community.”
Numerous Albanian cultural institutions, the French departments of all the Albanian universities, and the four French teaching associations “Alliances Fran袩ses” are participating in numerous events organised in the major Albanian cities: Durr촩, Elbasani, Kor衬 P쳭eti, Pogradeci, Shkodra, Tirana, and Vlora.
Albania joined the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie in 1999 as an Associated Member, and became Member in September 2006 in the 11th Summit of La Francophonie in Bucharest, Romania.
