Traditionally speaking, many societies have assigned to women the role of the caregiver and homemaker while men must guarantee the income. Traditions have changed, and the married woman now is also employed outside the home. However, even though in industrialized countries where the woman is supported to earn a wage outside the home, it is expected for her to spend less time outside of the family, especially when she has young children.
The research “The Division of the Private and Public Life in the Albanian Households – a Gender-Based Approach” was undertaken by the “Gender Alliance for Development Center”, in order to reduce the gap of the existing information on the division of the private and public spheres in the Albanian households. This empirical study is one of the first in Albania regarding this issue, so the researchers: Ani Plaku, Blerta Picari, Saemira Pino, Sonila Danaj, Eglantina Gjermeni, and Irena Shtraza aimed to analyze and to present for the first time to the reader, the separation of both spheres for girls and boys, women and men in today’s Albanian households.
