DURRES, Sept. 27 – The Italian-Albanian expedition in the ancient amphitheater of Durres discovered also an ancient ceramic bottle with some 546 coins, according to Italian prof. Sara Santoro of the Parma University. The bottle and the coins were found at an important Middle-aged wall among Roman structures of the ancient theater. Albanian prof. Frederik Stamati is repairing the coins at the laboratory.Santoro said that it is believed that the coins should belong to the 15th-16th century and cut in Raguza, or Dubrovnik, Croatia. All coins have on one side the Christ face and that of Saint Blaz on the other. Experts believe that the bottle and the coins should have been part of the things that a girl has taken with her when she was married. The coins will be kept at the Durres museum. The Italian-Albanian expedition has started to work since 2004. (Tirana Times Staff)
