Devoll police increase efforts to stop illegal immigration

DEVOLL, Oct. 10 – During the last three months police in southeast Devoll have increased efforts to stop illegal immigrants trying to cross into Greece. Some 1,630 persons have been stopped and fined for illegal crossing of the border, while 267 others were stopped trying to cross at the border point, according to spokeswoman Etleva Bitri. Police said there has been 26 percent more traffic across the border this year compared to last year. Police also said there have been on average some 100 Albanians turned back by Greek authorities after found with no regular documentation. During the last three months their number has been 9,680 persons but there has been no maltreatment of them, police sources added.
