TIRANA, Aug 8 – Fires in many areas in the country have damaged small areas of forest or mountains, authorities have reported.
In Saranda on Sunday firefighters managed to block a fire in the olive tree area in Bistrica village. Fire burnt two hectares of olive trees and also threatened the hydropower station and a fuel station nearby. Some passers-by going from Saranda to Gjirokastra let police know about the fire. Some four hectares of land and 500 olive trees were burnt, according to Mesopotami commune head Themistokli Kaishi. The firefighter service said that the cause of the fire was the lack of care by the shepherds. This is the first fire case in Saranda during this summer season.
In Fier the firefighter service asked residents to be careful during the hot weather. Last Friday police were told of three fires in the district. In Vajkan hills and the nearby village fire burnt a small area. Two other fires were in two houses in Kryegjate and Sheq I Vogel villages.
In Himara a fire caused slight damage to an agricultural area planted with different vegetables.
