GJIROKASTRA, Oct. 25 Gjirokastra prefect Spiro Ksera asked all the local government authorities to draw up clear plans for the fight against human trafficking. Gjirokastra is a key transit point for illegal traffickers across the border into Greece. Fighting illegal child trafficking remains a top challenge for the local authorities there. Ksera said trafficking had increased due to poverty, lack of awareness of the community, lack of awareness for preventing child labor and violence against them and the low level of support for infants.
In another effort to prevent child trafficking in central Elbasan, there was inaugurated a new training center for teenagers 14-16 years old coming from the poorest areas in the district. A Dutch religious organization funded the building of the center which offers training in different spheres like mathematics, English and computers, or general knowledge about health. The center was launched six years ago.
