TIRANA, Oct. 17 – Interior Minister Sokol Olldashi awarded the Martyr of the Nation medal to six members of the Guard of Republic who were killed in Cerrik, central Albania, in 1997. They were Sali Martini, Qemal Mehmeti, Halit Haxhine, Besnik Syla, Bashkim Mella and Petrit Ndoi. A group of the Guard went to support police in Cerrik during the hectic days of 1997. Their tank was hit by a shell. “We are proud to give the medal to them because, at last, the government has given proper value to the blood of the Guard members who fell in the line of duty,” said Guard commander Ndrea Prendi.
