LUSHNJA, Oct. 17 – Groups of Muslim believers in the city of Lushnja clashed with each other on the election of the new mufti. Police briefly detained 15 of them after they had allegedly beaten mufti Dritan Dervishi. Dervishi’s rival for the post, Tomorr Borici. had been nominated. The fight for the post culminated in physical violence against each other after many believers refused to accept Borici’s nomination, saying he was close to Muslim Community head Selim Muca, and also that he belongs to the Muslim religion but to a different sect. Borici has graduated from studies in Saudi Arabia. They accused Borici of not respecting religious rituals and also of abuse of funds with his mosque in Dushk village.
