Prosecutor asks for prison terms for alleged car thieves

TIRANA, Oct. 24 – The Tirana prosecutor’s office asked the court Tuesday to sentence with prison terms in total 33 years a dozen persons accused of stealing cars in the capital. Prosecutors also asked for a 1.1 million lek fine for them. Prison sentences started from 2 years to 9 years. The accused persons, by acknowledging that they had committed the crimes, tried to cut their sentences in half, according to the law.
In a separate event police arrested three persons for theft of vehicles’ mirrors in Tirana. They also found at a suspect’s house a pistol.
In another case police impounded a Mercedes car that was believed to have been stolen in Italy. They also arrested Gezim Jemisha who will be investigated though he is not being held.
