Blue, white and red: Albania honors victims of Paris attacks

TIRANA, Nov. 16 – Albania’s government has declared Monday a day of mourning to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Flags across Albania are flying at half mast and a minute of silence is to be observed at noon.

Over the weekend, Albania’s highest political officials, religious leaders and civil society representatives strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in the French capital.

Several ceremonies area also being held. Albanians lit candles downtown and sent flowers to the French embassy to honor the victims. The prime minister’s office and the president’s palace were illuminated with the colors of the French flag.

A NATO members since 2008, Albania has vowed to do whatever it can help in the fight against international terrorism.

Officials said they had increased the level of readiness of security forces across Albania following the attacks in France.
