TIRANA, Jan. 29 – Renowned Albanian rock star Gent Demaliaj passed away this week at 40 after a long battle with cancer, shocking fans which had been listening to his songs since the early 1990s.
Friends and fans paid tribute to the artist in a ceremony at the public broadcaster in Tirana before he was buried.
Gent Demaliaj was part of the rock band “Djemte e detit” and well known for his songs “Jo tani”, “Mos Qaj”, “Jakup Ferri”. The band which was created in Lezha in the early 1990s just after the collapse of the communist regime was one of the few outside Tirana to be one of the public’s favourite.
