VLORA, July 27 – Ernest Shimka, head of the bailiff office in southwestern port city of Vlora, was arrested and accused of abuse of post and corruption.
Shimka had started at the job only three weeks earlier.
It is alleged that he had asked a citizen who had won a case to pay him one million leks if he wanted the court verdict to be applied and carried out.
The citizen had won a case with an insurance company asking for ten million leks compensation following an accident with a car. He had remained invalid.
He was trying to get the reward and for that he needed the assistance of Shimka’s office.
He was asked to pay a bribe of ten percent of the amount he was to get. He went and told that to police and prosecutor’s office. Under their advise and presence he made the hand over of the bribe which served as the main proof to arrest Shimka.
