TIRANA, Oct 13 – NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen sent a message of congratulations to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha on his re-election in the post.
“During your previous tenure as Prime Minister, Albania acceded to NATO, the most important and successful security organization which has brought together Europe and North-America. NATO-s success lies in the values we all hold dear, and in our readiness to safeguard them from threats to our security. I trust that your country’s commitment to the Alliance will remain steadfast, based on the commitment of the Albanian people to belong to the community of democracies of the North Atlantic area, and play a stabilizing role in the Balkans and beyond,” he wrote in his message.
Albania became a NATO member in April this year.
Rasmussen said the Alliance was undergoing an important transformation, such as, for example, the discussions on the new Strategic Concept, while remaining committed to the stabilization of Afghanistan.
“Counting on your support, I am looking forward to working together with you as we prepare our important next Summit in Lisbon,” he said.
