TIRANA, May 12 – State police announced on Friday the arrest of 11 people suspected of involvement in international trafficking of narcotics.
According to police reports, four of the suspects were arrested as they were transporting 79 kg of cannabis to Greece, while seven others were arrested for allegedly being linked to the criminal offense.
“The above-mentioned persons were caught in flagrance trafficking in cooperation with each other a load of about 79 kilograms of narcotics of the type ‘Cannabis Sativa’ towards Greece in cooperation with each other, which was concealed in places created for that purpose in a vehicle run by citizen GL,” the police said.
The detainees are suspected of being part of a larger criminal group which deals narcotics, and was being investigated since the busting of another cannabis amount in the Kapshtica border point in early April.
According to the police, a 38-year-old from Lushnja was arrested on April 5, 2019 while transporting 68 kilograms of cannabis to Greece with a Toyota vehicle.
During the operation codenamed “Bistrica”, besides two cannabis cargoes with a total weight of 145 kilograms, firearms and illegal hunting weapons were also seized, as well as ammunition. Police have also seized fou cars, monetary value, as well as 14 mobile phones.
The detainees were prosecuted by the Serious Crimes Prosecution for the criminal offenses “narcotics trafficking,” and “structured criminal group in cooperation.”
