TIRANA, May 15 – Greece will continue to keep borders with Albania closed until June 15. Sources from Greek Customs confirmed that authorities have instructed that only a few cases will make an exception.

One of them includes Albanians who wish to return to return to their home country after having traveled to Greece as tourists and being unable to leave the country due to coronavirus restrictions. Another case involves seasonal Albanian workers, who have secured employment contracts and temporary residence permits in Greece.

According to local Greek authorities, about 15,000 seasonal workers are needed in several regions, who are expected to be mainly involved in harvesting seasonal fruits.

Several thousand seasonal workers from Albania and other Balkan countries left Greece in early March and will now have to face challenges to return due to the necessary procedures they have to follow to cross the border.
