TIRANA, March 6 – Saimir Tahiri has been elected the new head of the opposition Socialist Party for Tirana branch beating his party member Ilir Zela in an expected victory. MP Tahiri who had held the vacant post after the resignation of Besnik Baraj a month ago won by 390 votes to 153 votes in a vote held last weekend.
Some 620 members of the assembly’s branch in Tirana voted for the new Socialist leader in Tirana. The two candidates’ platforms focused on transforming the branch of Tirana, as the biggest in the country, into a winning constituency for the next general elections in 2013.
