TIRANA, Oct 22 – Interior Minister Lulzim Basha took part at a European Union meeting of the interior ministers held in Brussels, Belgium to discuss human trafficking.
The meeting discussed the issue concerning the member countries or those aspiring to become EU members.
Rehabilitating the trafficked victims was another main issue discussed.
Basha said that fighting human trafficking was a top priority for his country’s
authorities, mentioning the successes achieved to date.
Albania is considered to have secured the best practices, supported by data, regarding human trafficking and it is focusing more on the rehabilitation of the victims.
He mentioned the moratorium on prohibiting boats which almost put to zero the people trafficked through the sea.
The minister also mentioned the steps undertaken to improve border management, another main issue that is tightly watched by Brussels along with the country’s efforts to secure a visa-free regime.
Issuing of the biometric passports and the cooperation with international institutions dealing with law and order were other topics Albania is trying to be proud of.
