The European Union has decided to postpone a decision on whether it will open accession negotiations with Albania — neither supporting nor rejecting the European Commission’s recommendation for an unconditional opening of these negotiations. The European Council, made up of member state foreign ministers and heads of governments, decided that negotiations with Albania and Macedonia could open in June 2019, if the two countries show progress in reforms.
