DAVOS, Jan. 28 – A ranking of 149 countries based on measurements such as pollution control and natural resource management was released last week at the World Economic Forum. The United States was listed in 39th place, behind Ecuador and Albania.
Compiled every two years since 2002 by the Yale University Center for Environmental Law and Policy and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, the 2008 Environmental Performance Index is based on 25 indicators grouped into six categories – environmental health, air pollution, water resources, biodiversity and habitat, productive natural Resources, and climate change.
