TIRANA, April 28 – The top criminal or civil cases mentioned during these days are also those in which political interference is more present, according to a report the prosecutor general’s office has sent to all the diplomatic corps in the country.
The Durres-Kukes case involving Foreign Minister Lulzim Basha, the Gerdec explosion case involving former Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu and the money laundering investigation of the Bosnian-British businessman Damir Fazlic involving Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s family members are those mentioned in the report that prosecutors have been facing difficulties due to political interference.
The report states that prosecutors are finding difficulties in proceeding because courts offer strange procedural obstacles to continue the cases.
The international community has often warned the country’s politicians to stop intervening in the juridiciary.
The country’s justice has been its main shortcoming during the post-communist period, because of its corruption and also due to political interference.
