IMO redeploys observers to the vetting process

TIRANA, March 27 – The European Union Delegation to Albania announced Monday that the International Monitoring Operation (IMO) has re-deployed its international observers for the implementation of the vetting process.

Meanwhile, only 101 candidates to the vetting institutions have been selected out of 164 applicants who completed their application dossiers and submitted them to the Ombudsman office as requested by the parliament earlier in March.

The Ombudsman Office has set up an assessment committee which will review the 101 available files. The process will be done  under the monitoring of IMO international observers based on legal requirements set by the constitutional amendments in the framework of judiciary reform.

The Commission of Qualifications will have 12 members, the Appeals College will have seven members while both bodies will have an additional 2 public commissioners.

European Union and the United States have underlined that the successful completion of the vetting process will help Albania address shortcomings in the justice sector and allow the country to progress on its European integration path.
