BEIJING, Aug. 10 – Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha met, while staying in Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics, with top Chinese officials as both sides pledged to increase trade.
Tirana and Beijing had previously been allies during Albania’s years as a communist regime. After cutting ties with the former Soviet Union, Albania became a close ally to China.
With the fall of the communist regime in 1990, both countries resumed their economic exchanges more intensively. Like other countries, Albania has become a market selling many Chinese products.
Berisha met with government officials, and also managers of top Chinese companies, asking them to invest in his country’s future. (Tirana Times Staff)
