TIRANA, Oct 2 – Some 60 percent of the work at the six-kilometer tunnel in Kalimash on the highway link to Kosova has been completed, according to results from the building company.
The data show that 2.6 kilometers remain to be drilled. Besides that in the other parts of the road link 27 bridges are being constructed and out of 385 pillars 190 of them already in place.
Seven other bridges have been completed from the US-Turkish group Bechtel-Enka that has employed some 3,700 workers with 13.4 million working hours completed by the end of August. Some 1,300 types of machinery and trucks are in use.
The highway connects 170 kilometers from western Albanian port of Durres to the northeastern town of Kukes close to the Kosova border and it is expected to reduce the road by 45 km and cut the travel time to 2 hours from the 6 hours of the mountain trek that it is today.
That is considered the biggest ever investment in the tiny Balkan country.
