TIRANA, June 4 – The ruling Socialist Party-led majority has proposed a pardon of fines imposed on businesses for failing to pay social security contributions and health insurance. Some 30,000 businesses are expected to benefit from the amnesty which pardons fines of around 3 billion lek (Euro 21 million).
Ruling majority MPs say they will demand that the pardon is extended until next September, but opposition MPs have voiced concern that the law is being approved to gain an advantage ahead of the June 21 local elections.
