DHERMI, Aug 2 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha of the governing Democratic Party met Sunday with Ilir Meta of the Socialist Movement for Integration in their efforts to form a new cabinet.
Berisha’s Democratic Party-headed coalition, the Alliance for Change, won 70 seats, slightly ahead of the Socialist coalition’s 66 deputies and the Socialist Movement for Integration-led coalition’s four deputies.
Some 1.56 million Albanians cast their vote, or about 51 percent, which is two percent higher than four years ago but also 160,000 more votes in concrete figures.
Berisha invited Meta a few days after the June 28 parliamentary vote to create a coalition. Meta responded positively less than two hours later.
Until now they had always said there were no official talks between them waiting for the final results from the Central Elections Commission, which did that earlier this week.
The local media reported that Berisha waited for Meta at his villa in the southwestern seaside village of Dhermi where the latter came with a yacht.
