TIRANA, Nov. 7 – Albania’s power distributor CEZ Shperndarje was fined by the country’s government for irregularities with the power meters. The amount of the two fines required by the Energy Ministry, were half a million Euros and about 200,000 Euros.
CEZ openly said it was surprised by the fine and added it will challenge it in court. It considered it unfair and announced that such measures do not help to resolve the problem.
The fine was made for installing energy meters unverified by Albania’s General Directorate of Metrology (DPM), or what it called metering violations and abuses and for installing non-zeroed electricity meters.
Since it took over the power distribution monopoly in Albania, CEZ Shperndarje has been under increasing pressure to supply uninterrupted power despite a high amount of technical losses, theft and unpaid bills from households and businesses.
