TIRANA, Oct.2 – The regulating Unit of Energy announced new sales prices for energy produced in small power plants. Next year, the Albanian Electricity Corporation will have to buy power at higher costs from these units. Actually, the small power plants sell to KESH energy at two different prices. One price comes from already existing plants and is calculated at around 6.2 leks per kilowatt/hour. For the new thermo-power plants the price is 6.5 leks per kilowatt/hour. Next year, these prices will be higher given that they are calculated according to imported energy prices. Prices will only vary according to the situation of whether the plant is old or has been renovated with private financing.
In Albania there is a total of 83 medium and small size power plants with a capacity under 10 mega-watt. Next year these are expected to generate 150 million kilowatt/ hour energy, covering only 3 percent of domestic demand.
