TIRANA, March 8 – A man killed his wife and mother in law, before taking his own life in front of his two children in Tirana’s Labraka neighborhood, police said.
The man, a convicted criminal in Greece had recently returned to Albania and did not want his wife to divorce him, local media reported. When she refused to reconciled, he proceeded to kill her and her mother before taking his own life.
It was the latest incident to shock the Albanian public as part of a trend of family violence often directed toward women. It was made more poignant by the fact that it happened in the morning of March 8, the International Day of Women, which is also celebrated in Albania as Mother’s Day.
The two children are now under state care and being treated by trauma psychologists.
