TIRANA, Oct. 9 – The Albanian government has cancelled concession procedures for several small hydropower plants which had been approved by the previous Democratic Party-led government in decisions taken after the June 23 general elections. The Energy and Industry Ministry says it has cancelled bonuses on five hydropower plants and cancelled concession procedures for three others.
“The procedures on these hydropower plants were cancelled because of the wrongful application of the legal basis, failure to respect deadlines in submitting bids and failure to respect the deadline of dissatisfied operators,” says the ministry, warning of disciplinary measures against the officials in charge. Prime Minister Edi Rama has warned government will review several concession contracts over alleged abuses during their award.
