KUKES, Nov 5 – Citizens of the northeastern city of Kukes blocked for some hours the national road in protest against their non-payment or financial compensation for the land used to build the road segment to neighboring Kosova.
A highway is being built there over their land for which they have to be paid compensation from the government.
They also complained that the segment was being built too near their houses, pledging to repeat the protest unless the case was resolved from the authorities.
The road segment will be part of a 170-kilometer highway to Kosova from the port city of Durres, 35 kilometers west of the capital, Tirana, to the town of Kukes, 200 kilometers northeast of Tirana, and then to the Morina border crossing point.
