TIRANA, April 21 – Albania is strengthening its political ties with Turkey and is also trying to promote closer economic ties.
Last weekend, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Emrullah Isler visited Albania, meeting senior officials in Tirana, including Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Isler also visited the Ethem Bey mosque in the Albanian capital which dates from the period of the Ottoman Empire, and announced that Turkey will restore it.
“This is the only mosque that dates from the Ottomans’ period. Damage is noticed at the mosque. That is why TIKA, constantly runs projects in this country. In July this year, it will start restoring this object,” Isler said.
Meanwhile, Albania’s Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati paid a visit to Turkey where he met with top officials there, including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Infrastructure, agriculture and tourism were some of the cooperation topics discussed.
