TIRANA, March 12 – Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli has visited Latvia trying to seek its support for Albania’s membership into NATO.
Albania hopes to be offered a NATO membership invitation at the Bucharest summit next month.
Latvia was also the first EU member country to ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement Tirana previously signed with the European Union.
Latvian Speaker Gundarz Daudze pledged his country’s support for Albania’s NATO membership saying Latvia would serve as Albania’s advocate within NATO.
Latvia was also thanked for recognizing Kosova as an independent state. Topalli said that an independent Kosova was the fairest and most sustainable solution to assure peace and stability in the Balkans and wider areas.
During the two-day visit, Topalli and the Albanian delegation also met with other top Latvian officials, including with President Valdis Zatlers, to discuss joint efforts, exchanges of information and urging the country’s businesses to invest in Albania.
