TIRANA, July 18 – On Monday, local media reported that a 11 year old boy accidentally shot and killed his nine-year old brother while playing with a pistol at their home in the northwestern village of Nikaj, Shkodra district.
Though it was a tragic accident, this event highlights the need for the government to continue its collection of hundreds of thousands of weapons which have remained within reach of citizens since the anarchic year of 1997 when armament reserves were looted following the collapse of the failed pyramid investment schemes.
