TIRANA, Jan. 29 – Two athletes will be representing Albania in the 2014 Winter Olympics scheduled to be held from 7 to 23 February 2014 in Russia’s Sochi. Erjon Tola and Suela Mehilli will both be competing in alpine skiing with Mehilli being the first Albanian female to ever participate in the Winter Olympics since Albania made its first appearance in 2006.
Erjon Tola, who has been Albania’s single athlete in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, will be the flag bearer of the Albanian team in Sochi.
“A special gratitude goes to our athletes, who are not only already willing to represent Albania, to hold our national flag in the World Olympics, but that also give us hope and expectations for bringing home a medal,” said the country’s President Bujar Nishani handing over the national flag to Tola in a ceremony this week.
