Large parts of the surface of the lake are covered with plastic bottles and other items coming from Kosovo.

TIRANA, May 5 – Fierza Lake, created by the hydropower station by the same name on the Drin River in northern Albania, has been invaded by large amounts of upstream trash, several local television stations reported.
The lake was filled with plastic bottles and other items. It is also believed that chemicals have been thrown into the waters.
It is not clear where the trash comes from, but the lake is supplied with water from the Drin River, which has tributaries in Kosovo and Macedonia. Some of the items found on the lake indicate they came from southern Kosovo.
The pollution of the lake brings damage not only to its flora and fauna but also to the whole area surrounding it, environmentalists say.
Local authorities blame the central Environment Ministry for not paying attention to such repeated pollution of the lake. They have prepared a one-million euro project for its protection but to no results and no response from the central government until now. Hundreds of people and new equipment are now needed to clean the lake up.
