TIRANA, Jan. 14 – Albania’s integration, or membership, into NATO and Kosova’s independence were the main topics that President Bamir Topi discussed during the reception Monday with the diplomatic corps in Albania.

Prime Minister Berisha and other top government ministers and lawmakers were also present in the meeting.

In his speech, Topi said that the Albanian political parties should accept Albanian problems for what they are and should stop rationalizing them in terms of global or regional problems.

He urged Albanian political parties to undertake concrete actions in order to be prepared for NATO’s invitation of membership to Albania, as opposed to merely making declarations of commitment.

“We are determined to join NATO and the EU. We are obliged and committed to our path towards these aspirations for this is the only way Albania can reach its strategic and national aims. This is the only way to fulfill our obligation to citizensƴime is running out,” stated Topi.

He also said that an independent Kosova, according to the Ahtisaari Plan, would be the best solution to bring an end to the conflicts in the Balkans.
