TIRANA, May 13 – The Director general of Tax office Artur Papajani has been dismissed and replaced by Gezim Spahija, the director of Vlora customs office. Papajani, who had held the post since January 2009, will be appointed the director of the newly established Taxpayer’s Advocate structure.
The reasons for Papajani’s dismissal have not been made public but local media say his departure is related to failure to meet tax collection targets despite the installation of cash registers and online tax declarations by businesses.
Papjani’s dismissal comes one month after the resignation of the Customs Director General Endri Pema.
Pema said he was resigning for personal reasons.
