TIRANA, Oct. 1 – Starring veteran actors Alfred Bualoti and Eva Alikaj, the Hamletmachine, a postmodernist drama by German playwright and theatre director Heiner Muller, will be one of the most important events staged as part of the eighth edition of the German October in Albania. The drama directed by Stefan ȡpaliku will premiere at the newly rebranded Experimental Theatre at the National Theatre in Tirana on October 4, 5 and 6.
Director ȡpaliku says that through this drama in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Tirana he intends to make references to Albania’s recent history, bring up topics of certain historical stages and break up with mentality clich곮
“Heiner Muller’s ”Hamletmachine” is a brief paroxysm of a play. In shards of dialogue and description, some of it reworkings of Shakespeare (”Something is rotten in this age of hope”), it confronts the ghosts of Hamlet, Ophelia and Western civilization. Mr. M”uller has called his work ”the shrunken head of the Hamlet tragedy,” an appropriately macabre summary,” says the New York Times about Muller’s drama.
Theatre, films, music, exhibitions and discussions will be the highlights of this year’s eighth edition of the German October events in Albania. For four weeks, the German October events will focus on cross-border projects linking Albanian culture to that of Germany, bringing together Germans and Albanians exchanging their experience in arts and culture.
