The government meeting yesterday considered the law for the privatization of the distribution unit of the Albanian electro-energy corporation. This law requires the privatization to finish by the end of summer and puts on sale 76 percent of the shares. The transmission grids remain public property. This particular privatization is considered the most important strategic sale hence the Prime Minister Berisha has committed to complete transparency about the transaction. The distribution unit of KESH is the most problematic one with technical losses up to 35 percent of produced energy. The privatization is expected to bring more investment in the system and better management.
The consulting body for this sale has been the World Bank structures.
KESH to buy energy
The Albanian Electro-energy Corporation (KESH) has announced an international tender on March 17, for a quantity of energy worth 63 million euro. The purchase will be done in three slots and will serve for the period April-June, around 730.000 MW.
