Historical building of the Academy of Sciences declared Monument of Culture

The building of the Academy of Sciences of Albania in Tirana was declared Monument of Culture (first category) during a meeting of the National Council of Restorations in Albania and the Scientific Council in the Institute of Monuments.

Signed by Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro, this is the only historical building strongly connected with Albanian institutions that will be held under special protection.

Founded in 1972, The Academy of Sciences of Albania is the highest and the most important scientific institution in the country. Putting together the most prominent Albanian scientists and academics the Academy of Sciences includes within its system other scientific institutions, research centers and other organisms within and outside Albania.

Composed of two sections: the Social Sciences and Albanological section, and the Natural and Technical Sciences Section, The Academy has 28 members, 11 associated members, and 26 honor members.

Projects of Technological and Innovation Development, Branch for Foreign and Public Relations, Library, and Publishing are some of the units included. Furthermore, the Academy of Sciences of Albania has largest academic library in the country with around 8,120,000 volumes by 1986.
