TIRANA, April 5 – Police warned citizens they should not trust phone calls or electronic messages telling them they were winners of big amounts of money, following which they were required to make certain payments.
Police said there have been cell phone messages telling people they may have won up to half a million pounds, as a program held by big companies. The same scheme also works through e-mail.
Following that they require a certain amount of money to pay alleged taxation, mail and other services to get the amount.
The money is never seen again, and the scheme has had its victims in Albania, already police said.
These types of schemes are well-known around the world, and are punishable in Albania too, police said.
Police also offered a cell phone number where people may call to report being approached by the schemers.
