TIRANA, Aug. 24 – The Agriculture Ministry said Thursday that 25 tons of poultry owned by a Fieri-based company were blocked in Hamburg, Germany for not respecting the healthy standards. The poultry were brought from Brazil but did not comply with European Union hygienic standards. It was owned by the Albanian company “I & XH – FRI” based in Fieri, which had also secured a certificate from a local official there. German authorities immediately told the Albanian embassy when the poultry was stopped as it could not be sold at a EU country. Albanian authorities also said they would not allow its entrance because it does not have the required EU standards which the country applies to. The ministry also said that a deal with Brazil said that when a company bought such kind of meat for Albania it should be transported directly and not through third countries, otherwise it would not be allowed to enter the country.
