TIRANA, Feb. 28 – Following his official visit to Egypt, the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, was received in a special meeting by Egypt’s Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal Sayed Ahmed.
Meta expressed the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Sayed Ahmed and underlined the great interest to further promote the early historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
Referring in particular to the role of the two countries’ parliaments in this “new beginning” of relations between Albania and Egypt, Meta stressed the need to strengthen and enhance co-operation between the Friendship Groups of the respective parliaments.
“We are in the right time to give a new impetus to Albania-Egypt relations,” said President Meta.
During this meeting, Meta underlined the role that the two countries play in the respective regions and the great opportunities for enhancing economic and trade cooperation.
Meta also praised the important role Egypt plays in combating terrorism and violent extremism in the Mediterranean region and in the international arena.
On his part, Dr. Sayed Ahmed considered Meta’s visit to Egypt as very historic and very important to further strengthen inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by representatives of parliamentary groups and members of the Friendship Group with Albania, lawmakers of the Parliament of Egypt with Albanian origin, as well as the Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Albanian Parliament Mimi Kodheli.
